I know somewhere along the line we'd like to settle on a weekly game night so might Thursday night be that night? If everybody wants to get together next Thursday night again I'll "champion" the game and do the rolling up of things when everybody arrives.
If anybody has suggestions for a different night, please let us know. Last night seemed to work fairly well though.

Jamming BOTH of my guns on the same turn last night stunk, but otherwise it was fun! Sorry for holding things up at the beginning there- dunno what happened w/ my version.
Rex & I quickly tested after the game last night, and it works GREAT to open seperate rooms for 'Allies ' & 'Germans' -that way teams can have a place to roll jams & damage outside of the main chatroom.
Tonight i am doubtful early, but if games go late then i will be in.
Thursday nights are actually not going to be good for me starting next week I have softball - mon-tues-wed r best for me.

I've been thinking that we need to find a better way to track player availability. Something like a calendar where each player can fill in the nights that he will be available. The simple but perhaps overly-complicated solutions that have popped into my head are to have everyone post their available days in the forum or the Vassal server, or to designate one person that is emailed by everyone a few days in advance and who notifies everyone of designated gaming nights.
I have a feeling that there must be a better solution though. Anyone got any ideas.
By the way, I just had my entire afternoon (1pm-6pm CST) clear up, if there's anyone looking for a game today. As far as upcoming nights, I know that I'm definitely not available Wednesday, but so far I'm available on other nights this upcoming week.

I started doing that when I tried to get this started last time. I began putting together what I called the "Cyber Jasta" roster of players interested in VDP. It had everyones DP experience and when their best times to play would be. My thought was that everybody would have a VDP mailing list so if anyone wanted to organize a "pickup" game they could send out a group e-mail to see who is available. I think we need something a bit more reliable than posting messages at the forum. I think e-mail would be the most efficient way of informing others of upcoming games.

I've been thinking that we need to find a better way to track player availability. Something like a calendar where each player can fill in the nights that he will be available. Try posting on the Indy Squadron calendar and see if you can do it... I believe its set up so that any registered member can post a calendar entry. Try it and let me know, then let's see how that might be used to help VDP.

That might work, if each player simply posts "VDP - (their name)" on dates they're available.
By the way, I just tried it out and accidentally added an entry on April 1st. I can't seem to figure out how to delete it.

I should be online Thursday at 8:30cst again this week as well. Thursday would be the best night for me as far as a regular game night as well.

That's a bit of a late start for me, but I'll see if I can get one game in with everyone. If anybody wants to run a quick one an hour earlier I'd try to make it.

It's great when we can get everyone discussing game dates a few days in advance, but ultimately I don't believe the forum is the most efficient solution. I see that even though a few people have mentioned Thursday, nobody has posted on the calendar. I would happily entertain any other suggestions, but I am convinced the calendar is the best solution I've heard.
If each person who is available could simply add VDP - (name) on available days, then start could be coordinated (or the first posting could state a time). For example, if I had posted "VDP-Kevan" on Thursday and saw "VDP-Rex" and "VDP-AP" added, I would know that it was starting to look pretty likely. If I had also posted for Wednesday, but saw no other names appear, then I wouldn't bother trying to keep it open. And best of all, I only need to open the calendar page, and I don't need to keep checking the forum or exchanging emails

The only problem is that I could post my name on almost any evening if the calendar is what's going to be used to publicize games. Not that I can play every night, but once a week on just about any night works for me - except Saturday. I think we need to pick some weeknight and stick with it as our weekly gaming night. Maybe we could change days so that one week it can be Wednesday night and the next week Thursday night - as an example. Those could be posted in the calendar as the weekly VDP game. For "pickup" games I still think having a group e-mail would work best. Then if someone wants to play on a given night he can send out an e-mail to everyone a few days to a week in advance (the more advanced notice the better) asking if they'd like to play. If he gets enough positive responses that he's pretty sure there will be at least four players then he can add it to the calendar as a definite gaming night. I'd rather put definite game dates on the calendar as opposed to everybody posting their availability in the hopes there might be a game that night. If someone new comes to the forum and wants to play VDP, he'd want to be able to look at the calendar and find a definite date that he knows he'll be able to play.
Just my .02 cents, FWIW.

I think a calendar is a good start for an idea, but I much like Kirk could put my name on every day or could go the other way & put it on no days... I think one thing we need to also consider is we dont want to fill up the ISD calendar with all these availabilities. A separate VDO calendar on the VDP site would be more appropriate. I think the forum is still the best way to get a game together. Post a brand new topic each week with what night you want to play, if you get 3 others locked down, go with it. If not, try a different day. I think starting a new thread is key, that way users dont have to sift through pages and pages to find out about the latest game... my 2 cents
