George, please post the mini-con news here so that everyone can see it on the new forum. Thanks.
I know Dan will be there... any news on others attenders? Stephen Dale and I would like to try but we can't confirm yet. Anyone else?

Hi All, All systems are go for the 2006 Spring Mini Con. The poll taken earlier turned out to be a tie between Milwaukee and Gurnee. We looked at Gurnee and didn't find anything acceptable and Milwaukee did so . . . It will be held Friday, March 31st thru Sunday, April 2nd at the Holiday Inn Express Airport in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The website for the hotel is www.ichotelsgroup.com/h/d/6c/hd/mkeoc . A block of rooms are reserved under FITS Society. Either a king or 2 queen beds for $79/night. This hotel is 100% Non-Smoking. There will be a flyer coming soon with more details, but if you want more information now just e-mail me. Remember, this is a Masters Tourney year. Hope to see you all there, Jennifer Henion Events Coordinator

As of this moment, I plan on attending barring any work related travel that may spring up.

hi i looked into coming over for the spring mini con 2006 but at £3,000.00 for flights for me and my wife its a bit steep for a weekend of gaming. any chance of a laptop link up using vassal to allow me to join in on one of the games?. if someone took a lap-top in then what was happening on the real board could be represented to me using the vassal online program and my move can be shown to you likewise what do you think? phil.t

Stephen Dale and I won't be going this year. I was going to try, but the additional expenses of the con itself sort of made the decision for me. It will cost $42 (30+12) just to get myself in, another 30-40 for Stephen Dale and another $10 to play the Masters, which is the main reason I'd try to go. So for two people its basically a hundred bucks just to walk in the door, not counting all other travel expenses, hotel, food, gas, etc. I hate like crazy to miss the Masters, but the cost of participation plus the move away from a central location has really put it out of reach. At least this year! I'll try again in '07!

Very good mini con this year! Enjoyed all but one thing about it, and I'm going to write up a quick editorial on that one point for the next ISD.

I'm anxious to hear more about it.. what does everyone think about the con this year? I couldn't make it, so any details would be fun to hear.

There were six of us from Minnesota that made it down, and I thought it was a fun weekend! We were able to come home with 2nd place in the scoring competition AND the MASTERS TROPHY, so it was a successful weekend for the Ghost Jasta!! More details at- ghostjastamn.blogspot.com/

Thanks for the report and the link, Andy. I can't believe a rookie won the Masters. I've been after one for years and can't win it. Grrrr. Congratulations to the MN gang for their great weekend.

The quest for the Masters Cup has been diminished for me after this year's tourney. It doesn't mean as much as it once did. Every year , Mike sends out an invite to those players he deems worthy to vie for the Cup. He also explains the criteria he uses. ( The next part is not a personal attack on the winner of this years Masters . I hardly know the guy, seems like a nice fellow and he played a heck of a game) The problem? He wasn't invited. He and some one else happened to be in the room when the teams were divided up and MC decided to let them play. I know mike was just being the nice guy that he is. Here's the rub. The fellows who were invited by Mike fit all or a good portion of the criteria to be invited. There is some sacrifice and effort needed to meet the criteria to get invited to the Masters and I think it sucks that players more deserving than this year's winner were denied the chance to take the cup home. Over the years many players have spent thousands of dollars travelling to events to support DP. Many have donated time to publish the 'Drome or make counters and boards...

... to better the game .Allan Hammack is one oif the most deserving , dedicated players in the Society and it hacks me that he lost a chance for the cup to a guy most of us didn't know as opposed to losing it to some one you know is as worthy as Allan. I doubt I'll spend $450 again to win a Master's Cup. Kinda lost the incentive to do anymore for the Society either when all you have to do is be in the right room at the right time to get an invite to play for a Masters (?) Cup...
