All, In another thread we were discussing what to do with the ww1aircombat.com website I created. After input from a few people, I have decided to create a truly dedicated Virtual Dawn Patrol website instead of making it just featured content of ww1aircombat.com. I purchased virtualdawnpatrol.com and will soon have a new website setup there for us all to use. Features planned are: VDP Calendar VDP blogs - you can all have your own VDP email addresses for those that want one. VDP content - of course VDP after action reports VDP downloads section VDP chat - in case vassal gives us fits on a game night we can coordinate/help each other here VDP forum - will either link to here or we can try the forum software that I use and see how everyone likes it. As for ww1aircombat.com - I will remove the VDP related items once the new site is up. I will still use that website in the future for a more general look at ww1 air combat. For now though, my focus will be on the new website. I might transfer all of your user accounts so you do not need to recreate them, but it might be a good idea for everyone to just signup on the new website. Together we can make this a great community website that is updated very regularly. When people see this, our numbers will surely start to grow for game nights Dan

Thanks, Dan. I think we're getting to the point where a central VDP website should be sustainable. When the new module is ready, a copy should be placed on your site. And with such a dispersed group of players, getting up-to-date rules, charts, etc, on to a central site will be a great help. I'm making a mental note that I need to get back in the habit of writing AARs too.
I'm not sure how best to deal with the forum. We get a fair amount of exposure by being located on the most active Dawn Patrol forum, and I don't think it's a good idea to have two separate forums. Anyone else have any thoughts on this?

That is the way I was leaning too - and to my knowledge this forum has stayed spam free. So I probably will just link to here for the forum.

I personally would like to see everything on one site, I know users can get turned off pretty quick if they have to bounce all over the place, but linking the forum here would be fine... otherwise I am sure we could slowly migrate over, and anytime someone posts here, just remind them to go to the new site... either way will work its just a matter of preference...

Personally, I'm more likely to read the forums if there are fewer forums to read, so I'd prefer to see the forum stay here (if my opinion matters at all).
On the other side though... being a newbie on this site, I was slow to join the forum because I thought it was mostly stuff for the Indianapolis squadron. That could scare off some potential new players if they don't take the time to look through the forums. That is the only down side I can see to keeping the forums here.

So far - I consider this choice still up in the air It will take me about a week to get the new site totally up and running. I just put the DNS entries in today so it will be a few days before I can even do any real work on it. As a result we have a few days to get more opinions from everyone before the work begins.

you know, you could just have a forum on both, and let users decide...eventually i think traffic would migrate to one or the other, but this way you would catch all possible traffic in the beginning and the logic will work itself out...

can you not mirror the forums? that way if you view/post in one, it becomes available in the other?
not sure how feasible that is, or if it can even be done.

Hey Dan, I wrote up an AAR and clicked on the "Submit AAR" tab, but it gave me a 'not authorized' error... here is the report that I can post there as soon as u set me up- AAR 3/13 Game #1. July 1917 Over the Front. Andy and Brian were patrolling in their S.E.5's when they came across Kevan and Gary in their Albatros DIIIs (?). A scramble ensued, and in the haste for a fight, Gary dove in on Brian, but flew right in front of Andy's guns. The SE tailed the Albatros incessantly, and a few turns later the right wing of the Alb came peeling off, sending the poor German pilot to a spinning death. Seeing his wingmate disappear, Kevan decided that discretion was the better part of valor, and headed home. Game #2. May 1917 Behind German Lines. Andy and Brian again paired up, this time in Albatros DIIIs to take on Carl, Kevan and Gary in S.P.A.D VII's. Though outnumbered, the Germans stayed close to eachother and were able to peck away at the Frogs. Brian's experienced pilot was able to latch on to Carl's tail at one point, and in a glorious burst he jammed his 2nd gun and did one point to the S.P.A.D.s wing, but it was enough to send Carl spinning out of control into the clouds. The next turn Kevan looked to avenge his wingman and dove in for a tail shot on Brian, but this left his soft underbelly exposed to the other Albatros, which swooped in and dished out a #2 engine crit, spreading pieces of the poor S.P.A.D. all over the countryside. Gary quickly made for the clouds, and Carl was able to regain control of his aircraft and make his way home.
Feel free to take the charts & mission logs off of my website and add them to the downloads area, or u can just link to my page as well if you like!!
