I'd like to inquire to see who may be interested in playing a VDP game via e-mail. If anyone played in the old webgames John Noddings ran, these would be very similar. We'd still use VDP, but instead of all having to get together at a particular time to play real-time, we trade our moves via e-mail. Whoever is up would open VASSAL, make his move, save the file, and then send it to whoever is next. These are not quick games by any means as they can take many months to complete, but they are easier to fit into ones schedule. You just check your e-mail to see if you're up, do what needs to be done in a reasonable amount of time, and pass the files along.
One of the necessities to get a game done this way may be that we'll need a moderator. In the old John Noddings games he'd roll for initiative, attacks, etc. The players would just move their planes and announce attacks. We might need to do that in order to keep the game moving along.
If you might be interested in giving it a try, drop me an e-mail. Then when I've received all the reply's I think I'm gonna get (at least enough to make it an official game or we won't do it), I'll get things started. If I get four replies I'll act as moderator for a game between the four players. If I get only three we'll need to arrange it so I can fly one of the planes.
It's an experiment to see if this will work, so please let me know if you'd be interested. My hope is that if we get this working well enough we may be able to have a bunch of e-mail games going at the same time.
