I setup a Virtual Dawn Patrol channel on my teamspeak server. It will be up 24/7 barring any power failures. It is set to restart itself once the power comes back if there is a failure. Anyhow, here is the info on teamspeak: 1 - goto www.teamspeak.org and download the latest client to your pc. 2 - the settings are fairly intuitive - but if you need help please post here. 3 - configure teamspeak to use the "push to talk" method - otherwise we will here your every breath 4 - connect to the server at roguegroup.no-ip.com using the default port of 8767 5 - Doubleclick the "Virtual Dawn Patrol" channel to switch from the Default channel. Only those on the same channel can hear you. To setup a game join the main "Virtual Dawn Patrol" channel, then split off into teams on the sub-channels(Allied and Central Powers) for actual game play. Let me know if there are any questions. Dan

I used teamspeak for D2 and WoW, pretty good thing if you are going to make the Vassal games a regular occurance.

I agree it's probably pretty nice, but I'd recommend for the time being that during VDP games either all the players should have it or none should. It wouldn't be much fun for one or two guys to not have it while everyone else does. The players without it will probably miss out on a lot of pertinent conversation, assuming everybody isn't going to take the time to type everything they say into a chat box.

Dan, could you check out Rex's article in the DOWNLOADS/INSTRUCTIONS section of the VDP page and either give us a more detailed set of instructions for permanent posting (assuming the reader knows little or nothing about teamspeak), or see to it that someone else does such an article for the page?
That is really helpful... but if we're going to encourage TS as a standard system, we should put up a permanent set of instructions for people who know nothing of it. If you could take up that project it would be appreciated?

keep in mind... teamspeak can be used without a mike, if they have speakers and/or headset. they do not necessarily require a 'mike'. They can listen in, and type responses. When i play on-line games, i usually will turn my mike off, and just listen to the conversations/discussions, while playing. I get funny looks from my girlfriend, when she see's me talking to a game garyb

To setup a game join the main "Virtual Dawn Patrol" channel, then split off into teams on the sub-channels(Allied and Central Powers) for actual game play. Dan, Thanks for setting this up. I don't think separate channels are needed. 1 VDP room is fine unless we are going to be running separate games. All players in the game will need to communicate during the game and tams should not be discussing strategy during the game anyway. Also, Gary has a good point, even if you don't have a Mic, you can listen in and type responses. I know many people who do this. I don't think the all or none policy is a good idea. The point is to get everyone to start using TS. And if someone who doesn't have it sees that everyone else does, and how useful it is, they will be motivated to set it up. It is a trickle down effect. Dan, let me know if you need help writing an install / user guide for TS. -Rex

I just hate if we'd have to tell newbies they have to pay so much for a headset or microphone in order to participate. I'd think we'd want to keep things as simple as possible to encourage participation. So how much is one of these headset/microphone things? Where do I get the one I need?

The headsets are available at Wal-mart, the price varies from $15 to $20. I will set it to just one channel with no team channels. As for the usage of it - I am fine with what the group decides. I will leave it up and running and an all-or-nothing rule is fine by me. If the mic-less players are fine with just listening and typing, then I am fine with that too. As for a more detailed TS install guide - Rex if you have the time and want to focus on the install of the client, then I can handle the connection instructions and add to your doc. Let me know, my time is limited as we are moving to a new building soon at work and I am in I.T.
