Dan, I love the site and look forward to helping build content! If you have specific needs you would like addressed please let me know how I can help out. One idea- the ISD site has been very gracious with their space for VDP, but maybe since you have taken the time to start this site, we should work on migrating ALL VDP content to one place, that way new users or less internet savvy players can get everything at once instead of having to navigate back and forth...

I will leave that up to the ISD guys and whomever has been generating that content. I am more than happy to host it, or even to be a second host for it. I do not want to step on toes or negate something someone else is doing.

All, I have just added a "Submit AAR" link to the user menu on the website. "AAR" is of course an After Action Report. There is a category drop down too (for thursday, weekend, or email matches) You must login and have "Author" rights to use it. Everyone that has registered with the site so far now has the "Author" security level. I have made Kirk and Andy "Publishers" which means they can edit existing content. I don't want to hinder anyone from contributing, but I will not be giving out the publisher rights unless it is requested. As an "Author", if you use the Submit AAR, Submit WebLinks or Submit News functions, the items you submit will need to be approved by a "Publisher" first. A second set of eyes is a good thing! Kevan do you want publisher rights too? No offense to anyone else, I just started by giving it to guys that I am aware have content other than AARs to contribute. Again, just send me a request via the contacts page on the website and I will be happy to upgrade security levels. ww1aircombat.comp.s. I think I will add "Pickup Games" as another AAR category. Dan

I do not want to step on toes or negate something someone else is doing. Thank you but don't worry about that at all... let's worry about what is best for VDP. Setting aside all else, here's what we know: - A single, organized location for VDP is a good thing and simplifies life - ISD generates by far the most DP traffic anywhere To an extent those facts point us in opposite directions, the first fact pointing us toward a separate VDP site and the second pointing us back here. So let's think about this: - Moving ISD's VDP content to VDP's new site - Have ISD carry short articles in each issue on the latest VDP game with a link to the VDP site "for more information" - Put another link on ISD's "Links" page - Post an abbreviated VDP page under ISD's "Society Resources" page Yes, that will diminish the traffic that sees VDP, but hopefully not too badly since we'll have new links everywhere. Of course much of that also depends on VDP supplying ISD with timely content for each issue, which is especially important since many visitors here only hit the current issue and the forum. Another concern is that by leaving ISD, VDP will have separated itself a bit more from the society. That is not a good thing for anyone and should not be discounted as a factor. IMHO the new VDP page should seek to unify itself and integrate itself into the society at all costs. The positive aspect is that VDP will have its own home to build and its own identity. This is a very good thing so long as the price in exposure is not too high. Perhaps ISD has helped launch interest and participation to the point where VDP can survive the separation? Now may be the right time to try it.

Dan, So I have some content for you, but am unable to login to the site. I get a 'must enable cookies' error... I do have them enabled but am on a secure firewalled network here at work, so that may be the issue. I will email the document to you and kirk & maybe one of you can post it?

As the latest Thursday game writeups are submitted we can send them to you as well. On the new website I simply put a link to the VDP forum here. I have no interest in hosting a forum on the new site, as this one is already active and more than adequate. Thanks for the input and if you see any moved content on the new website that you want me to pull down for some reason, just let me know.

All - I posted Andy's new chart to the new "House Rules" section of the website. Also, I moved Kirk's Email Game 5 rules there too. The FAQs section has been shut-off for the moment until we have relevant content there.

Two thoughts. In addition to a mission roll up, what about a “condition” rollup. Condition would be things such as dawn or dusk battle, limitation on damage before a pilot must disengage, weather, turn limit, etc. Some conditions would be known to both sides, other many not. They would be optional but could add spice to a scenario.
Second thought (actually a question) Are we adding a hose rules page on one of the sites? I have been playing since end of June and I know of two house rules for VDP: Roll d6/d10 for altitude and the different table for signal deck gun. I picked those up from playing and asking why? A House Rules page would be nice. I will type it up once the rules are outlined.
Speaking of House Rules, I propose that we change the numbers roll from a 2d6 to the percentile (2d10). 2d6 is a bell curve with almost 45% chance of rolling a 6, 7, or 8. Unless some game mechanics rely upon grouping initiatives around 7, I think the 2d10 would be faster and easier. Low throttle could be a 200 and gliding could be a 300 on imitative. The 48/20 pilots would get a –10 and the 60/25 would get a –20 to the roll IAW the usage rules.

The altitude and "up one column for single deck guns" rules aren't peculiar to VDP and have been used by DP gaming groups for a long time now. As for changing how the numbers rolls are done, I'm not sure if changing it will make all that much of a difference. Sure people roll the same 6's, 7's, or 8's fairly frequently, but rerolling only takes a couple seconds. Changing the numbers rolls might be a hard sell. Plus it might take some time to make sure any mods have the same impact as they do with the current numbers. As an example, would 2-seaters get a +10 on their rolls?

Were there any games played this weekend? I was on a camping trip so I have no clue. If so, please try and use the Submit AAR function after you login to the ww1aircombat.com website. Thanks.
