I will be on around 8ish... First two that get on, go ahead & get the campaign set up, & then roll up a second just in case we have time!

The first game of the 12 July VDP game night was our campaign. Andy, Kevan, and Kirk flew their SE-5s while Mark, and Rex flew Albatroses with Dan coming in a couple turns late with his Pfalz. There was much maneuvering over the first couple turns but little shooting. Then, in what has almost become a campaign game tradition, Rex was sent flaming toward earth by the first burst from Andy's guns. Andy got engine hits that flamed the engine and hit Rex's unlucky pilot as well, which meant his fate was sealed. After that it seemd the two remaining Germans went first and second in every turn. They tried to stay in good defensive position as best they could, but after four or five turns of absorbing punishment they both headed for the clouds a short distance below and escaped. The Allies reformed and headed back home to fix their jammed guns and reload.
After that a second game was being rolled up, but I had to leave. Can someone provide the details of that one?

The second game saw Andy, Rex, and Mark in weak Camels vs Kevan and Dan in weak Fokker DVIIs at low altitude in July, 1918. Right off the start, I didn't think the Germans had much of a chance, but I lucked out when Mark lined up for an attack on Dan that gave me a 400' head-on for 3 hits, knocking out his engine and sending him into a glide. He fell just short of the front, where he ended up being captured. The allies made good use of their slight edge in maneuvrability, rarely offering up a 100' shot to the Germans while dogging them across the map. After a few turns, each Fokker had a wing crit and at least one wing half off. A pilot hit (luckily no effect) was all the incentive I needed to make a break for low clouds, with Dan following my lead. The Germans nursed their damaged planes home, successfully landing despite a pair of wing crits in each plane.
