I will not be able to be on until somewhere between 8 and 8:30 tonight. However, as of 5pm today I will be on vacation for 11 days! So, I may be available for some pickup games even at odd times this week.

I should be available this evening - maybe even as early as 5. I won't be available after Saturday though as I take the family to Colonial Williamsburg. BTW, there's a cool bookstore in Williamsburg called Byrd's Aviation books I hope to visit while there. It specalizes in early aviation books and has lots of WWI stuff. Check them out at: www.byrdaviationbooks.com/ I found the link at The Aerodrome and was excited when it just happened to be in the place I'm going.

Thanks for the link Kirk. I had been looking for a copy of Falcon's of France and just ordered it from them

I should be available earlier than usual, but I doubt it will be as early as 5. Probably closer to 7.

So did you guys play any additional games? If so let us know what happened. The first game saw three SE5a's taking on a pair of Albatri and a Pfalz. A turn into the game a third Albatros joined the fray to deal out some damage. We Brits tried as hard as we could, but after five turns one SE pilot was killed and plummeted to earth while my SE had to escape into the clouds with a sick, smoking engine and a jammed Lewis. Carl stuck around bravely to try and fend off the four Huns, but I couldn't see what happened to him what with all the smoke in my cockpit.

I have a question that probably warrants its own thread, but I'll post it here. The last thing I saw in last nights game was Carl taking on four Huns while I escaped into the clouds. How does one get medals for particular acts of bravery? Is it something we're supposed to talk about after the game or does someone need to nominate somebody, or just how does that work? In all the VDP games we've played we've never discussed medals or how our pilots get them. I'm just wondering what the process is.

Carl stuck around another 5 turns, but was stuck in a circle for the last 3 if I remember correctly. Good initiative rolls kept him in the game for as long as it lasted, but he finally went down out of control after soaking up a total of 29 hits. I think Andy picked up that kill in his DVa.
Last night marked a turnaround in the fortunes of the SE-5a in VDP.
I believe that someone has to be nominated for a medal, and then you roll for the chance of one being awarded. If I remember correctly, it's covered somewhere in the rules. Andy rolled for the chance after his precision bombing of four bridges last week.

Yeah, I had my usual performance from an SE. I shot five turns in a row and averaged roughly two hits per shot (although I admit a couple of those shots were at long distances) before my Lewis jammed and ran out of ammo on the same shot. All I know is when I roll for airplanes and see I'm getting an SE, "yippee" is not the first thing that comes to mind.
I may need to nominate Carls pilot for a posthumous medal.

Andy and I ended up cutting for the kill on Carl since we both shot at him the last turn and I came away with the credit.
If anyone deserves a posthumous medal it would be that Pilot.
