Went to a model contest/swap meet here in Huntsville this weekend and was surprised by the abundance of WWI aviation related stuff. Normally when one attends these types of things the available merchandise is about 60% WWII, 39% modern, and 1% WWI. This past Saturday there were lots of Roden WWI kits, Eduard WWI kits, older Airfix kits, Osprey books, etc. It was a veritable smorgasbord for the WWI aviation enthusiast. In fact, the one guy that was sitting at a table working on a model was building a Dragon "Knights of the Air" series 1/48th Fokker DrI. I wonder if this may signify a slight shift in interests or if this was just an anomaly or if my senses simply deceived me. All I know is it was darned nice to not be overwhelmed by huge numbers of Spitfires, Mustangs, and Focke-Wulfs while I search for an elusive Albatros or Sopwith.
BTW, the kit I was really excited about picking up was a 1/72nd scale Airfix Handley-Page 0/400. It should look good sitting next to the Roden 1/72nd scale Gotha...whenever I finish it...or the Gotha. OK, I'll admit it, I'm better at buying and starting kits then I am at actually finishing them.
