Con't from a conversation between TippedTop and me on another thread...
I am the eternal sworn enemy of Flight by Legislation. The fun of the game is decision making, and when we legislate away the right to make decisions, why bother playing? There's always some do-gooder out there trying to fly your plane for you and creating a thousand rules by which you must do it.
For instance... you MUST begin a flight at your best turn speed. Says who? Its your stinking airplane, not mine. Its your hand on the throttle, not mine. Start the game at any speed you want.
"Tracking" rules are another example of Flight by Legislation, claiming that your observer can only look at one target every twenty seconds (game turn). That's silly. You can look anywhere you like. Its your observer, do what you want. In twenty seconds you could easily scan the entire sky five times and still have time remaining to swivel your Lewis gun two different directions. Stop trying to fly people's planes for them!!
Morale of the story - pilot decisions are what makes the game fun. Let people make their own decisions and stop trying to fly their plane for them with all this stupid legislation.

I think your comments are very sound. There is nothing worse in ANY game when you finish your move or action to have a book work over the other side of the room throw down the rules book and tell you that you can't do that !
Yes we need rules, and those rules should be adheared to, but you are totally correct, all of these games are fun. A group of friends getting together to get away from the grind of daily life. To occasionally 'turn a bind eye' is a refreshing way to keep the pace of the game up and stop the book work from getting beaten up !
