Okay, we've had a slow start to 2011, but let's kick things in gear for the 22nd annual Red Baron Fight!
I'll have the hallowed Silver Goblet engraved and done in the next couple of weeks, and let's spread the word to everyone so we can be sure to have a nice crowd.
You can win RBF and establish your eligibility for this year's championship game in one fell swoop. See you there... April 23rd, 2pm, venue TBA for Red Baron Fight XXII!!

I don't know... we hadn't really planned on any other date because RBF is held on the Saturday closest to April 21st. There is no backup date. A few major conflicts with society events have forced us to occasionally reschedule, but the weekend closest to April 21st is the RBF date.
Let's see if there are any other major conflicts before we look at other dates. And let me know what news you have. We can move to morning or afternoon if it helps your schedule, too.

I'm fairly confident there will be a Richeson entrant or 4 this Saturday.

The Skinners don't need to stack the deck numerically in order to win. We can do it with 2.

Silver goblet being ordered this week!
Lacy and Morgan households... does anyone else want to host? Looks like 10-13 players this year and my house is too small for that. My house is the default location, so we know we have a place to play, but I don't have much space.

News and well wishes just in from Mike Carr: At your Red Baron Fight event, please convey my best wishes to all in attendance and relay the invitation to join us for the FITS Society's Spring Minicon the following weekend in Milwaukee. We don't see too many Indy players there too often, but we keep hoping that some of the spirited flyers might make the trip to join the fun. The same holds true for GEN CON, of course, where we'd love to see a few more players taking part in the action.

Probably one of my favorite RBF games overall, bad dice and poor coordination aside. Kudos to the new players for trying their best and not just giving away points to people as has happened in the past.
FYI, you DID have me as a target on my pullaway (it was a climb actually), but it was a 200 ft shot, so you rightly chose the closer one to go legal third man in on Garrett. So, while you said I didn't leave you a shot, it was more to the point that you chose the BETTER shot. Can't really argue with your logic on it. But when you are under cards as I was, sometimes your decisions are limited, so you do the best you can, which sometimes has bad trickle down results. Call it an homage to the Ken Mrozak school of flying, lol.
I'd still say the pivotal thing was Garrett staying close to the pack but my being forced to fly away certainly contributed to the separation.
Overall a very enjoyable game. Sorry SD lost his guy though.

The Skinners don't need to stack the deck numerically in order to win. We can do it with 2. Except there were 4 Skinners counting Dory and 3 Richesons. ;D And 2 of the top 3 were Richesons.

The pivotal move for me as far as who won between Stephen and I was when I couldn't continue pounding Stephen Dale because Ethan beat me on numbers and took a 400' side shot, which forced me to go after Rick since I would have been 3rd man in. But I surely can't complain it was a great game and Zunk did everything right, firing on every turn of the game.

Kudos to the new players for trying their best and not just giving away points to people as has happened in the past. Agreed on both counts. Was really something to watch the strategy unfold. Glad you recalled that... I try to remember so much for ISD but I forget key points. Even if I weren't in the running I'd have done the same thing. In order to win RBF, your side must first win RBF. Tough to win the goblet if your side is getting creamed. I had a chance to split the British formation, triple attack, and virtually assure my team of a 4-2 advantage all in one move. Ya gotta do that. In retrospect, your move looks more valid now than it did during the game. At the time the negative results were obvious, but now I see that you did leave me a 200' shot, and if you went down, SD and Garrett were toast for sure. It didn't turn out well, but I don't question the move as much after thinking about it now.

That's true, and looking at SD's mission log after the game, I'd say there was a 50/50 chance that together we might have gotten him that turn. So that's a good point. If you hadn't outrolled Ethan you might have been in on another kill. But you would have had to split the kill with me, so that would have been a draw. Plus, I think you mistakenly got 10 more pts on your score in the "Force enemy to escape" column** so I don't know if it would have made the difference. **Your score listed 15 pts under that column, but IIRC, we determined that no one had shot at Rick for at least two or three turns when he made his escape... no "Force enemy to escape" points available there unless I've missed something. Someone correct me if that's wrong.

Okay, I made some of the corrections you guys pointed out. Thanks. Since we archive these and refer back to them for years to come, its nice to have the additional input and leave a reasonably accurate record of the event.
