Would a debate on the subject of "Is all government inherently evil?" be ok with you? That's entirely up to you. I've already name at least three potential topics when I unsuccessfully attempted to introduce some basic debate rules on this forum. You're in charge of this, not me, so take your pick. My intent was not to hold a majestic showdown on a platform for the world to see. My intent was to make our discussions on IndySquadron.com more enjoyable by imposing an external discipline that helps us better interact with each other. TOL will be of no use in that regard. I still don't think you completely understand the purpose or point of having a Battle Royale. It's actually a very prestigious debate, and one that can be fun/interesting/challenging for everyone who reads and for those participating. I encourage you to check out a few of the others that have been held on there. I think you might change your opinion on it. I really don't want to do it if you're not all the way on board with it. We would be co-contributors on a grand stage each presenting our different viewpoints. To quibble over something that is irrelevant makes no sense. We both agree that we wouldn't be copying and pasting our whole discussions. That's the main idea behind the restrictions. Not to discourage external research. If you read some of the former debates there was quite a bit of external research used and required.

I honestly know for a fact that you are misunderstanding the stated purposes of the Battle Royales.

I think part of the problem in communication we might have is in how we describe things. For me, I wouldn't say external research is being discouraged if someone says "Don't copy and paste your whole argument from another source." Especially if the idea of the debate is for two people to communicate and discuss an issue with one another. Which is what the purpose of this debate format is........

Stephen I actually see this as a way for us to both completely lay all our cards on the table as it relates to this subject. For me the purpose would be to understand one another's positions better. You said in one of your threads that a person shouldn't enter a debate if they are unwilling to change their views. I will state here what I've said many times that if my views are shown to be wrong I'll always change them. If you are willing to say the same, then a debate like this would be fun and interesting and challenging for us both. I pray you'll think about these reasonings and let go of your suspicions. My intentions are good.

But again, my motivation is totally different. My entire purpose is to compel improved, friendlier and more topically oriented debate on the Indy Squadron Forum.
