Okay, Kevin asked for a review, soooo...
Gamerz is a gaming venue with a store attached. The Game Preserve is a store that shoves a few gamers in as well.
IMHO, the Game Preserve is the most unpleasant gaming environment we've ever had. Too small, very loud, cramped, and the atmosphere is very poor. You are literally surrounded on all sides by boxes and junk. You're playing in an undersized, poorly lit warehouse. The staff is super nice and friendly, but the atmosphere is just plain lousy. I found it very unpleasant. That's not to run down the store... as a store, its first class!! But its not a gaming venue. It can't even pass for one under desperate circumstances. Its a store.
Gamerz is a bit loud as well, but spacious and designed for gaming. Its well lit and loaded with snacks, nearby food, facilities and spacious. As a gaming venue, to me Gamerz is the hands down winner even though the Game Preserve clearly outclasses it as a store.
Since Kevin doesn't like Gamerz, I suggest that we move back to private homes. I actually found that quite appealing and enjoyed it very much. I would not want to play at GP again.

Noooo Rick asked for the review not Kevin. I already knew what you thought after last night. I can't argue much with what you say above. I don't find it quite that uncomfortable, and I've never experienced there the several things that made me grow sick of Gamerz. Namely:
A. Staff that doesn't give a rip if you are there or not and won't do the least little thing to help you out. B. Screaming people so loud I leave with a migraine headache, and people playing Dawn Patrol can't hear one another talk let alone hear yourself think because it's so loud in there, which is what I experienced on several occasions at Gamerz. C. Highly profane screaming mixed in with the screaming that occured on those occasions. Not the kind of environment I want to take my kids into and I'm sure other parents of our many next-Gen Dawn Patrol players wouldn't want either.
So yes it's a lot more cramped but I'd still take it over Gamerz hands down simply for atmosphere.
That being said, the home games are what our Squadron was founded on and is to me our bread and butter. Everyone in the car leaving Gamerz last night all said they'd rather play at someone's house.

I forgot about the last time I played at Gamerz when not only was it loud and profane but the guy running the desk said if we didnt' start buying stuff in their store we weren't going to be allowed to have our games there.

I think we should just stick to playing games at houses also, but you have to remember that sometimes people cuss and scream at the GP too. Another thing I like about Gamerz better then GP: Their bathroom is MUCH MUCH more clean.

The only real noise was when they were playing that stupid werewolf game and started screaming like idiots. On those nights I agree... the noise level was bad enough to find another venue. Profanity was occasionally out of hand, but it was rare. Most of the time it was minimal or absent. I never heard the story about "buy stuff or leave." That's a new one on me. I wish I'd known of it... I'd have asked them up front if they wanted us there or not. If not, I'm fine with leaving. But all the years we played there, they never said a single word like that to me. I can't figure that one out. Another thing to remember is that they're under new ownership now, too. I still say we stay in players' homes.
