So does anyone here play Wings of War? I've looked into it and it looks like a nice "lite" wargame on a subject near and dear to my heart. Plus, since one can play two player games it will allow me to play with my son. The cards look colorful and there are more different types of planes than I would expect. I may pick up some of the miniatures if for no other reason than they're cool. The game doesn't appear to be as in depth as DP, but still looks like fun.

Well I bought Burning Drachens, Watch Your Back!, two of the expansions, and a handful of the miniatures and my son and I have had a great time. It's definitely on the "lite" side, but there's enough built into the different maneuver decks to tell the difference between planes. There is no dice rolling and all damage is done by picking damage cards. You pick from the "A" deck if you have twin guns and from the "B" deck if you have one. damage is fairly simple in that it takes X number of hits to bring down a plane. They do have critical hits though such as smoke, fire, rudder damage, and engine damage that each have different effects. The beauty of the game is that it's simple and colorful (even without the minis - which do add a really fun element to it) and appeals to a wide reaching audience. My son and I have played a dozen games and we've also added a "DPesque" role playing element to it. At this point I can't see playing any WWI aviation game without role playing because it adds a huge element to every game. I know some may think I'm touting a competitor, but to me anything that draws interest to WWI aviation is a plus. A lite game like WoW may draw more folks to want to try Dawn Patrol as well. WoW has my son talking about Fokker's, Drachens, Nieuports, etc. that he didn't talk about before.
