Some observations on the day.
Stephen keeps wanting to carp on my bad luck. Actually, my luck is no better or worse than anyone elses. Wayne having good luck on a shot in no way indicates I have corresponding bad luck (unless my Christian brother is willing to concede the idea of Karmic balance, which is a bit heretical..... LOL). Stephen going out on a prop hit is the same situation. Just because someone hit his prop doesn't mean he had corresponding bad luck. If you want to identify bad luck, look at things like which player has many turns of high initiative numbers. That's more indicative of bad luck to me.
Kevin and the pilot hit: Kevin SHOULD have been out first round with that hit. The only reason he wasn't was that I felt compassion for a player that gets knocked out early as I have had this happen to me a couple of times, and so I recommended he be left in the game. What made it controversial was that before the game we had instituted a rule that any role affecting a person could be challenged by that person if they felt something was unfair or belowboard (in an effort to get people to make sure all dice rolling was witnessed). I proposed the rule and I did a bad job of it. What Evan did was in NO WAY against Indy Squadron house rules, but because I worded our game rule badly it caused a controversy. That made me more inclined to err on the side of the player than maybe I should have been, which also contributed to my voting the pilot hit being a NE instead of fatal. Kevin was in no way culpable of any underhandedness, he was merely arguing based on the flawed rule I put in, even though it was a completely valid roll on Evan's part that was based on standard Indy Squadon rules.
All in all I was really pleased with how the game turned out. Some folks felt that the SE's in particular might be weaker planes, yet one was in the thick of it at the end. I'd like to thank Steven for letting me pick this years field.

Hey Rick and all. I just want to say that I would disagree with the reasons given as to why I protested both in the article and in Rick's post here. I have honestly always believed that it was a house rule that pilot hits were rolled openly in Armistice Day Championships. This went back to me being told that years ago in an Armistice Day where I had to re-roll a pilot hit because of that.
Several other people also said when we were talking about it Saturday that they had always thought those were rolled openly on Armistice Day as well, because why would they need to be hidden since all pilots in the Armistice Day tournament are equal 3rd mission pilots. Every Armistice Day FITS tournament that I have participated in, pilot hits have always been rolled openly to my recollection. Maybe my recollection is flawed, and there were some that I missed, but the point is I never remember seeing anything that changed my belief that pilot hits were rolled openly on Armistice Day. That was why I protested it. But I had already rolled the pilot hit and accepted the fact that my pilot had been lost when it was suggested that I be given a NE wound. I said if it were going to be an issue, then I would just accept the fatal pilot hit. I never doubted though for a minute that Evan had rolled the pilot hit or that Rick had witnessed it. Like I tried to tell everyone that has happened to me before at an Armistice Day tourney. It wasn't voted on, but I was told I had to re-roll it openly even though at the time I had a witness and I did re-roll it openly and it was then a miss.
All things said, it was a fun day regardless of if I had been shot down in the first round or not.

Like I said, you did nothing wrong and were perfectly correct to argue things as you saw them. I believe any controversy arose from my fumbling around with rules and not anticiapating all the permutations possible.
