In a game at Mike Carr's last Sunday for the first time I saw a pilot actually suffer from a compass hit. Earl Leyda caught the compass hit along with a couple other crits and escaped into a cloud bank right below the fight. It totalled to a 50% chance of disorientation - Earl failed this roll and landed his brand new Pfalz D VIII behind enemy lines (landed safely). He rolled a medium troop concentration, so had to survive three 30% rolls for capture before he could roll for take off. Unfortunately he failed the third roll to become a POW. Fortunately he made his 1/6 chance to escape.

Here's an interesting question... if you fail the roll and land on the wrong side of the lines, if you are not captured the first turn, can you take off the next turn and attempt the roll again? (assuming you successfully take off as well)

I don't have the critical chart with me, but I believe it specifies three rolls for capture before you can roll for take-off. If you take off successfully after that I believe you don't have to roll again for disorientation. (I'll come back and edit this reply after I reread the chart if I'm wrong.)
I was right.
