I like many of the House rules I have seen on various web sites. I like the one where a jam on a short busrt still does 1 hf of damage, but I cant get my group to accept it !
I had a realy 'out of the box' idea for a house rule that DID meet with some encouragment from my group. Its a rule which would allow a pilot with a jammed gun, which he was unable to clear after 8 attempts. The rules state this type of jam cannot be cleared 'in the air'. I have some experience of jammed firearms and accept there are times where an empty case is jammed so badly it needs the attention of an armourer.
I did have the idea though, that once 8 attempts had passed, why not let that pilot land, wherever he may be at that point, and try to clear his machine gun on the ground and then take off again.
I supose there is going to be the chance he might be straffed on the ground or captured or someother bad thing happen - like crash !
But I felt it would look superb in the game, the desperate polit landing his machine and clearing his badly jammed gun. to take off again and take up the fight again !
Any thoughts ??

I'd vote in favor of it simply because it would be used on such incredibly rare occasions that it would not seriously affect the game. So why not? The goal of the game is to let people play, not to impede fun. Plus, it puts yet another decision back into the hands of the pilot, which is one of my MAJOR pet peeves in gaming... "flight by legislation." I hate it... in fact, I'll continue this on a separate thread...

I have a book which describes the four possible jams for the Maxim/Vickers machine guns. Two could be repaired in the air( both with the little hammer you sometimes see hanging out of cockpits in some photos) and the other two jam types couls only be repaired by dismantling the gun. I believe the book is 'The Red Baron's last Flight' by Peter Kilduff. Anyway, I thought you should know before making this a house rule.

The censor system didn't like the word "cockpits." Should be okay now.
