Well, my 'BIG GAME' wishes came true!! We had FIVE count em 5!! Players at the 'table' last night. Rex (Fokker DVII) Elmer (Alb D?) and John H (Roland DVI) took on the Priest kids, Andy & Carl in Dolphins. With a cloud bank inbetween them, it made for an interesting fight. Elmer, the brave Alb he was, stuck his nose right out there & climbed through the clouds, only to be left behind by his timid wingmates. Moving early again the next turn cost him, and the Dolphins pounced, but 5 in his engine, which smoked it but didnt conk it out! The rest of the bosch finally joined the fight- John was able to smoke Andy's plane, but all were able to escape with only minor scratches. We had a few issues with the 'newer' players with the concept of 2 chat windows, and also with the concept of syncing- which chat window to then use to both sync and use for tailing cards, etc.... would be GREAT if eventually we could streamline the system to include TWO chat windows in the same server session...i am not sure of the logistics of how tough that would be, but I look forward to the current mods that Kevan & Rex have been working on!!

I'm exploring an option for having dice rolls that can only be seen by teammates, but I can't say I'm too optimistic. I plan to do some experimenting this weekend.
There seems to be no option to having two windows when it comes to chat though. Perhaps one option would be to have two modules - one designed for playing the game and the other designed only for team chat. With all the features that will be included with v1.4, the two windows would be very distinct if we pared the team chat module down by eliminating all the features except for team dice roll/chat features.

I can provide chat functions on ww1aircombat.com if this would be helpful. They would be available 24/7. Just let me know and I can have it ready for this thursday. I would just make a German and an Allied Room.

I'm going ahead with the 2-module idea, with the hope that we can at least give it a test run for a game. It's rather simple to do, as it's just a matter of removing features from the normal module.

Sounds good - it would make more sense to have it all in the same app.

How about permanent 'Allied' & 'German' chat windows that both open when you launch the module? That way you can just close the side you are not on & not have to do anything else special... would that be a simple solution?? I really need to get in & play w/ the modules one of these days, but in the meantime really appreciate all the work both Kevan & Rex have done!!

That is what we would like to do, but unforunately it appears not to be possible with the current module. The closest thing is the private, two-player chat windows, but you can't integrate dice rolling into those.
I posted the problem on the Vassal forums, and one of the more experienced module developers thought he might be able to figure out a solution, but I haven's heard anything back from him.
V1.3 of the module is nearing the point where it can be tested out. If there are any other feature requests or plane images that people want me to incorporate, let me know ASAP.

The team chat window functionality does not exist within Vassal at the moment. I have exchanged messages with Rodney Kinney who is the creator of vassal and our request for private team chat windows has been added to the Vassal to do list. It is not a high priority however, so we will have to wait until the Vassal developers get around to it. Other than the way we are doing it now, there is really no other way available in Vassal.
Kevan's Idea of making a Module just for chatting is a good one. Basically it is a modification of the way we are doing it now, but it might help eliminate some of the confusion we saw with syncing this time.
