Sunday morning turned into a Sunday afternoon game. We're playing at present, if anyone feels like dropping in to join us.

Sorry I missed it! Got a good 'Squadron Report'?

Another balloon bust, this time Elmer and Rex in SPAD XIIIs, me defending in a DIIIa. The allies quickly dove on the balloon, popping it before I could even get down to the battle. Then I was doing a pretty good job of hounding them, until Rex put 2 hits in my wing and took out an aileron (only 2 hits I took). Finally, Elmer came in for a HO, missing me while I put 5 into him. Then we collided. An anticlimactic ending to what had been a good battle for my pilot.
I just can't keep a Pfalz pilot alive. If only I had made my parachute roll.

Bummer about the Pfalz pilot! Was it a neccessary head on? Or do we need to make sure Elmer reads the section in the rules about head on attacks?

Head on attacks don't really bother me that much, as they were a common feature of dogfights. However, I've always thought the odds of probable pilot hits were screwy. I can be tailing a plane at a very low closing speed, shooting through comparably soft rear fuselage and tail, and I have a lower chance of wounding his pilot than when I'm firing at someone head on, closing at 200mph, and his pilot's partially behind a solid engine? But I guess that's a separate discussion. Along with why 2/3 of my tail shots are hitting his wings, while I suddenly develop an incredible ability to put half my hits in his engine while closing head on...
