Hello Herm, 8 Central for Kevin and myself. I see you list your location as Minnesota - I live in Minneapolis and we have a local group of face to face players that is always looking to welcome new players into our circle! I look forward to meeting you online tonight & chatting more!

I should be on by 8 (central) tonight but I recommend everyone make sure they upgrade to the latest version of VASSAL (V3.0.5 as of yesterday) ahead of time so we can make sure there aren't any compatibility issues.

Thursday AAR: I arrived a bit late so entered on turn 2 in my Albatros at 7200 feet while the two Pfalzes of Mark and Herman (a new player) had already started dueling at around 7400 feet with Kevan and Andy's Camels. As I arrived on the scene Kevan had already taken an engine hit that left him smoking, but that didn't stop him. Peering through the water/oil mist he continued to attack. I attacked but in short order lost both guns to jams. Eventually Andy escaped with problems (jams maybe, or maybe too many E hits?) that were not visible to the Huns while the four that remained dueled. Eventually Kevan dove away, leaving the words "I'll be back for you Huns later" scrawled across the sky in engine smoke while the three German planes flew home to ponder the question how could they be in such an advantageous position and let the Tommies get away?

Usually I don't name my pilots until they reach 'acehood' (that way I dont get too attatched as they die in droves) but for this 7/0 Camel pilot I will be making an exception. LT Pete "Maverick" Mitchell will be his name... his story last night was this was his 2nd flight of the day, on the first he had lost his good buddy Nick 'Goose' Bradshaw in a mid-air collision accident. With plenty of targets, he jammed his gun on the second turn and broke away from the pack. A lucky hammer whack instantly cleared the jam, and he should have been ready to go defend his smoking wingman. BUT! Memories from the morning haunted him, and sweating in his cockpit he just kept mumbling "It's no good" and could never re-engage. His smoking wingman fought his way out in his trusty but smoking Camel...and had some choice words for Mav back at the airfield...

Ok, so if a Camel flys inverted over the top of me and the pilot gives me the bird and takes a Polaroid of me I'll know who it is.

That's okay, Lt. John Elviss (now 4/0) laughs at 3:1 odds. He figured that a smoking engine made it a fairly even fight against a pair of Pfalzs and an Alb.

Sorry I missed Thursday all. I setup a somewhat older external dvd burner on my machine on wednesday night. Somehow that coupled with a windows update put my windows install into an unusable state. I am no stranger to recovering from a bad driver situation, but I tried every trick I knew before deciding to go the complete re-install route late thursday night.
That pc had been running smoothly for 3 years so after that long there was a bunch of junk I wasn't using anymore anyway. Thankfully, after re-installing the OS and all of my favorite software, it is now back in action - and running much faster now as a clean OS will do ;-)
Unfortunately I am a maybe for this thursday, we have a crazy week on the family calendar - but I will make it if at all possible.

"and running much faster now as a clean OS will do" - So if I do a reinstall of my OS, will my planes fly faster?
