It's really hard to assess these options at the idea stage. I would recommend editing the module to make it do what you envision, and then distributing it to others for their assessment. This has worked quite well for me in the past. I've even thrown things straight into an update, assuming that if players don't like it, I can easily remove it at the next update.
If we get a few players editing the module, I think we need a new forum room or a wiki, as there are many components to the module that need to be tracked so that we don't end up duplicating each others' work unnecessarily.

Mark, I have resisted the urge up until now to add too much automation to the module. By keeping the mechanics simple, I think it will help VDP players who end up playing in FtF games later on because the mechanics will be almost identical. Plus if and when Version 8 comes out, there should be minimal impact on the module. I still would like to see what you have added, so get in touch with me and we can get a file transfer set up.

Mark has added quit a bit of functionality by adding buttons that output many of the commonly typed phrases as well as text that displays when you change your aircraft counters state as well. Kevan, if you have new counters in the works, let me know and we can coordinate getting it put together.

I'll have a handful of counters (and I've got to remember to fix the Glide images), and I thought it might be a good idea to edit out some of the poorer-quality counters, but what I really wanted to do was work on the maps. I haven't done anything on that, except for a half-complete Ostend map that I can't finish until I find a photo of the original to figure out some symbols/structures.
I could see myself maybe being ready by some time in October, and that's assuming some more free time come fall. If you'd like to get the new update out sooner, maybe I could release the maps as a separate map pack.

I'm glad to report that the new module update is finally in progress. Rex has already done quite a bit of work on it, and I will be trying to integrate a few of the changes mentioned on this thread - generally, adding new counters and map features while also improving the game interface. The work that Rex has already done on the interface (control window) is incredible, although I think it will take a few days for me to get used to hearing Rex's voice speaking to me from my computer... (yes, we now have some limited sound effects).
Once I've got a bit more work done, I would like to do a test game or two, to make sure that the features appeal to other players.

I Can't Take all the Credit. I am using the changes Mark did last year and have been doing some fine tuning. The new version of vassal has opened up a lot of new things too. (ie. sound)
I think the new version is going to help speed up online play considerably. The automatic scenario generator Mark built into this version is just one example.
I think we will be ready to release within the next few weeks. I think everyone will be pleased when they play it.
