I've been giving some thought to attending Gen Con this year. I haven't attended before, and probably could only make it for about 2 days. Could one of the many Gen Con veterans tell me what days are usually best for Dawn Patrol events?

There should be an event scheduled at 8am, 12pm, 5pm, and 9pm every day, Thur through Sun.

Well, take that back, the last game on Sunday is at noon.

What was I thinking? I had a momentary lapse in judgement but thanks to GenCon, I quickly came back to my senses. I was thinking on visiting (not playing) GenCon 2007 just to see the state of the gaming industry and visit with a few old friends. Even better, I planned on bringing my son along (the next generation of gamer.) Sticker shock took over after researching the cost of this adventure. Gone are the days of the "Visitors Badge"--$5 to $10 pass to wander the conventions. Only badges available for purchase are the $35/day pre-reg (way past time for that) or $45/day **with a 6% admission tax(?) onsite purchase. Even then, if after purchasing an event ticket or generic tickets (they did bring those back!) I decided not to play, a 5% administrative fee(?) is deducted from my refund. Long gone are the days of "prizes" supplied by the convention for the winners of events (even paper certificates)--it's up to the "volunteer" GMs to recognize the winner(s) of an event. So the result is that I shall invest the over $100 (includes gasoline & tolls) for a one day gaming adventure into another venture that gives a greater return for my dollar. Thanks, GenCon, for bringing me back to my senses.

All of the FITS society events do have prizes awarded, and usually if you have extra generics there is someone at the FITS tables who will but them(beacuse they need them for the next sceanrio), yes the costs have gone up but we are doing what we can to help within the rules.

I agree with Mac.
The admission and ticket prices are an embarrassment to Gen Con, an embarrassment to the staff of the organization, and an embarrassment to gaming.
And as an Indy resident, I apologize for any taxes that you guys get hit with. We should be thanking you people for visiting our city, not sitting back and waiting to rape you at every hotel, convention center and restaurant. Our city council and mayor are filthy corrupt scumbags who have never worked a real job in their lives and have no skills other than to live off the productivity of others... but then I guess that could be said for any government job. If it makes you feel any better, they just did the same to us with property taxes.
I will support DP and the society, but Gen Con's price tag is greater than the return it offers.

I'm coming to support DP, but the ticket costs are terrible.

The MN players feel much the same way as Jim does on this one. It is difficult to get time away & the costs of traveling alone are not that cheap these days, so we prefer to hold out for the society events such as the team tourney (what happened to it this year?!??) and try to make it to those instead.

We talked it over in AZ and we don't mind the registration fees, we just don't feel its worth the time to play in the DP events. 30 plus players make for a kill rich envirorment but its a boring way to spend a four hour timeslot. We will continue to make and support DP events but not at GenCon.

The size of the game all depends how many regulars travel it seems, but 10 is about right for last year, AP- the team tourney wasn't run this year due to a lack of a coordinator. I hope to see many of you at Gen Con, and maybe we can get a minicon going this fall in the cities
