I have no idea how Ken feels about religion.I do not know if he intends it as denigrating or not. I am taking his tag at face value. At this point ,I do not believe Jesus is God. Mark14:33 says Jesus"began to be distressedand agitated".In Mark 14:34 Jesus says "My soul is deeply troubled, even unto death".In Mark 14:35 Jesus falls to his knees in anguish. He also asks that the hour might pass from him. In Mark 14:36,39,41 Jesus asks that the cup be removed 3 times. These are the reactions of a man wanting to live. His faith in his adopted Father (Only through my Father am I able to do this...') is so profound he allows his own suffering and death to occur when all had to say to Pilate is "your right. Sorry". It brings tears to my eyes. By the time Luke bases his gospel on Mark's gospel, which shows Jesus in anguish as he prays in the garden, he completely remodels the scene to show Jesus at peace in the face of death ie God-like. The myth of Jesus had begun. I don't think who have faith are fools. People with blind faith are scary. I want the faith of Jesus. To face my own death with the belief that the Creator has it figured out and will let me know His/Her plan when I get there. To me the bible has remants of Jesus' truth, but too much has been changed by man so as to fit Ken's tag line.

Why do 'Christians' promote the Jewish commandments? Most of the Christians of whom I ask that question have no idea of Jesus' commandments.

Well, since Christ was Jewish, and in fact made mention of the Mosaic Law, it sorta follows that a Christian might keep the same sorta outlook toward it?
I'll defer to the trained professionals on this one... : )

Still, the Old Testament is the basis for the Jewish faith, the Torah. Just because a group of fellows decided to add the New Testament to it and call it 'The Holy Bible' does not change it. Many Jewish scholars are, well, amused at Christian interpertation of their Holy book. Are there any quotes in the four gospels where Jesus commands his followers to obey the 10 Commandments?

Good answer...your Lord and master must be proud of you... LOL. Good one. To your point, however...if you really want to discuss this in depth, you will need to engage someone with a better working knowledge of the Bible. My own knowledge tends more toward Biblical history (yes, I am a poor student and don't study as much as I should the stuff that I should be looking at) than the actual answers you are seeking. But this really isn't the forum to do such (like Fark says, getting into a flame war on an internet forum is like running in the special olympics - even if you win, you still participated). If we ever get into a face to face again I'll be more than happy to bore you with my interpretations of this topic and have a discussion in depth if you so wish. Out of curiousity Dan, do you find that the overall moral teaching of the Judeo/Christian religion to be fundamentally sound but object to how individuals apply it, or are you more just saying that the whole religion is wacky and people who believe it are nuts?

Where to begin...I resent religion being used to control my behavior or enact legislation based on the Bible for example.I resent someone telling me I can't get to heaven if I don't believe Jesus is the son of God. Recently in Kalamazoo, a "Christian" organization payed for a billboard to be placed near Kalamazoo's 2 gay bars quoting the Old Testament's abomination text against homosexuality. However no billboards were posted near the Red Lobster quoting the abomination of eating shellfish. An abomination is an abomination. If you can ignore one, you can ignore them all. The Catholic church excommunicated my father-in-law when he divorced my mother-in-law. Yet they refuse to do the same to the priests who have ruined countless lives with their child molesting. Pat Robertson suggested that a couple Supreme Court justices should die because he didn't agree with their rulings. Yet, Jesus could not stomach hypocrites. Neither can I. I feel if you are going to call yourself a Christian, the Old Testament should be irrelevant . People who claim the Bible is the inspired word of God have fact, not faith . Faith is factless. When I pointed out the conflict about the time of the crucifiction in the bible to Stephen, he didn't have a reply . The story of Mary Magdeline being a prostitute was added to the bible in the Middle Ages. What else is factually wrong in the bible? Morality can be found in many places and in many faiths. I look forward to a face to face discussion and thanks for taking my last post the way it was intended.
