Hi, was playing vdp last night, i have the 7th edition (actually several copies), but the charts and stuff we were using were not from that edition. Of course i understand that over the years, charts and stuff were published over at the Dawn Patrol webstite, but that site doesnt have any links to these charts,
Does anyone have a location, whereby someone can find, and download these additonal resources? i am surprised they are not available on the Dawn Patrol Website, and accessable to people who have joined the Fits society, which i have?
thanks garyb

Are those AC stats considered definitive? I had an Excel spreadsheet of planes sent to me a while back (can't recall from whom), and when I went to compare them just now, I noticed some stats that differed?
For players who are new to the game, or who were away from it for a while, it would be great to have these things all in one place. Maybe on one central website, or even a booklet as incentive for new Aerodrome subscribers.

The booklet is actually a great idea. That would REALLY encourage Drome subscriptions.

For players who are new to the game, or who were away from it for a while, it would be great to have these things all in one place. Maybe on one central website, or even a booklet as incentive for new Aerodrome subscribers. Ah there-in lies the problem. That excel spreadsheet probably came from the Dawn Patrol website. The stuff on the website is suppossed to be gospel, HOWEVER... As you've noticed some of the stats do not match. The stat that shook me was the variable dive rate on the Fokker Dr.1. It produced one of our larger arguments and a call to Mr.Carr. The 7th edition lists the dive rate as variable if flown prior to NOV. 1917. The stuff on the website lists that same variable dive rate if flown prior to NOV. 1917 and then goes on to list another dive rate as variable if flown prior to Oct 18. So as far as I'm concerned the plane stats are suspect from the website. So if we publish a book whose stats do we use? This would include or exclude the merceds high compression stuff? So we end up again wondering whose houserules govern.

That's not our decision because none of us can publish a booklet... MC has to. He owns the rights.

Not sure if it's Mike or TSR/WOTC/Hasbro at this point...since TSR was the last publisher as Dawn Patrol, it's entirely possible they still own that name (which they changed from the original Fight in the Skies). Perhaps that is the issue holding up publication of a new edition, trying to make sure the copyright is clean?

Mike owns the rights outright. He bought them back.

I think it's important that new players have some means of obtaining the plane stats, even if they're not the most accurate out there.
I would even pay a surcharge on my FITS membership if there was some sort of compendium of stats and rules that would bring me up to speed. For example, I have a pusher hit location table from charts that I picked up when I played with the Minneapolis group (also available on Andy's website, linked above), but I have yet to obtain rules and hit location tables for multi-engine planes. No rules for seaplanes either. I know that some of the resources have been published in Aerodrome, but it's a bit of a stretch to buy all the back issues to track them down.

I thought that we were using all 7th edition rules for VDP? Like the other new players, I have NONE of the other charts. All I have is 7th edition.

We're planning for the VDP v1.3 module to integrate the new charts for combat date/location/nationality, and rolling up plane selection. I've already integrated charts that Andy provided me, and I intend to confirm I have the latest version of the charts when I'm at the Mini-Con. That's one of the reasons v1.3 will not be available until April (the other being that I simply haven't had much free time).
We will continue to use 7th ed rules, especially when playing with new players, but we've already used the new planes in email games, and I think we will see more 8th ed content showing up in the future. The new content is actually more charts than rules, and the new rules usually supplement the old rules rather than replace them.

Well that bring up an interesting point. Who's charts do we use? The charts I have list Mediums wounds. I'm pretty everyone has different rollup charts, so it becomes an interesting proposition.

This seems to be bringing us back to the need for a 'press conference' at the mini- con with Mr. Carr...

I just got a response from Mr. Carr regarding the charts & website etc....thought i would share w. all -
"Thank you for your note regarding DP. This is something we can talk more about at the minicon. To give a short answer, I think two of the most immediate areas that could be addressed would be to have someone who is highly motivated and loves the game to manage the official web site and do so more actively. It's just been in 'caretaker' status for several years and anything would be an improvement, of course. The other area would be to get a couple of new and additional editors for the AERODROME, to breathe some new life into that publication. Of course, once those two things happen, getting new game materials out will help revive and spur additional interest in the game, which I will be happy to provide in the future. The web site and the AERODROME could be the vehicles for getting new materials in the hands of players."
So it looks like we will be able to have some good discussions at the con!
