Does anyone in the country still use Medium Wound tables regularly, or has the whole idea faded into the DP sunset?

Hopefully it's gone, it's just another table to have to look at that doesn't add anything to play.

I thought there was still one group somewhere that used it... can anyone confirm or deny?

What in your opinion does it add that makes it desirable?

Not sure how to answer that. It has always been part of the rules. Never felt there was a problem with it.
Hey Rick did you get a look at the pics?

I did, thanks. Looked like a smaller crowd this year but looked like everyone was having fun.
Well, let me rephrase that question. When you are playing, does having something inbetween light (5% pass out, can still fly) and critical (30% passout, must leave immediately) make you feel that if fulfills a need? From what I've seen the time or two I've tried to use it I wasn't real impressed with it's effects. If you still can't speak to it, try to play a game without the med wound and see if you miss it or are glad it's gone.

Is Apache the only remaining group using the Med wound?

From what I've seen the time or two I've tried to use it I wasn't real impressed with it's effects. If you still can't speak to it, try to play a game without the med wound and see if you miss it or are glad it's gone. Ah, now I understand. I look at it this way, a medium wound is a problematic wound. It's bad enough to kill you but light enough to make you think your safe. So yes it fills a space/need. You actually have to consider if you want to risk becoming a Yard Dart in order to finish a mission or go for a kill. Personally I love to risk it. And I've had more than one pilot go splat. On the other side of the coin. My best pilot William Buckwell V took a medium wound trying for his 5th kill. He stayed in the air shot down numbers 5 and 6 before diving to his side and landing where he spent the next month recovering in a hospital. That really added to the game for me. Instead of a light who cares wound or a land now wound he was able to fly through the pain, hands slick with his own blood to become an Ace. I really think the beauty of this wound is that you can choose to risk it and die because of it or return home with a real sense of accomplishment. The only flying referance I can give you is from the Flying Tigers in China. Planes were as scarce as men to fly them and they were noted for being wounded, finishing the mission and flying home where they died. Sounds like a medium wound to me. Would I play without it? Sure, but it adds alot of spice for me.

I have never even heard of this... was it published in the Aerodrome or added with new charts or something? My concern would be that it gives an advantage to those that know/ use the rule in that their pilots have a better chance of surviving, over those that stick to the 'official' rules...

I'm not sure where it came from originally.

FUNNY YOU SHOULD ASK THAT since ISD has a big article coming later this spring on the Medium Wound and its distant connection to Indy.
Yes, that is a concern Andy. I don't know if anyone's run the numbers or not but it might alter the survival chances. Hmm. Can anyone say fersher?

The expanded wound chart was published in Aerodrome 113. Thanks to George Henion for that piece of info. (he has a list of rules and where they came from I copied it at the con)

George, if you want to know the real origin of a lot of current and 8th ed. rules, see the Indy House Rule section, then look at the very end for Obsolete/Repealed Rules.
Also watch for the above mentioned article later this spring on Indy's role in the Medium Wound tables.
