My wish came true and we got THREE games in last night!! #1 Pitted SPAD XIII's (Mark & Andy) vs. a Fokker & an Alb (Kirk & Rex). On turn #1 Mark took a nasty engine crit that turned him into a glider, luckily the front was narrow & the efield was close, so he made it home OK. Andy did what spuds do best & dove away before the Hun could chew him up as well. #2 Campaign - I am sure someone will have a better writeup soon, but quick synopsis... Kirk & Kev (SE & SE5a) were escorting Andy (Bristol) on an Artillery Spotting Mission. Mark, Dan and Rex defending in Alb DVs. On turn one, Dan got bold and challenged the Bristols observer head on taking a side shot on Andy from above. Like a good escort, Kirk swooped in and dished out a pilot hit and a few engine hits. Andy's observer added an engine hit and the Alb broke into flames, falling out of control and killing the helpless pilot. On turn two Rex was seeking revenge on the Allies, and got it! Taking a nickel crit in his engine, poor Kevan rolled an unlucky #2 BOOM crit, and the sides were even again. The next turn the Hun attacked the Bristol, and managed to blow the observers gun from its ring, leaving him with his flare pistol. The allies tucked their tails & made for home, with the Germans successfully defending & bringing the campaign almost back to even! #3 Saw a high altitude dance right above the clouds between Kev and Dan in Camels & Rex and Andy in Pfalz DIIIs. Both sides chewed eachother up a bit as the Camels danced easily around the Hun. Eventually time got the best of this one and Andy headed for the clouds... the fate of the last turn(s) will have to be told by one of the other three....
Great night guys, and things are moving well I think. Mark is a new player at the table, and already handles the game like an old pro, and things all around are speeding up a bit!

The third game only lasted a couple more turns. The allies had been flying on one gun each for most of the game since both rolled 5% jams on turn 3. Dan finally got his gun unjammed and put 6 hits into Rex, which convinced him to head for the clouds.

AP - I think being able to play three games last night was an anomaly caused by extremely lucky (or unlucky) rolling. In the first two games we saw players eliminated after being hit the first time on turn one - which is fairly rare in DP. That first game was so quick if I would have blinked I would have missed it. I think it went a total of three turns. All in all though, a great night of DP.

The second game was tremendous fun, even though I spent most of the time as the target hoping that I was setting up shots for Rex (who was moving last when I was moving first). From playing years ago, I don’t remember critical hits impacting games as early (two games, to crits the first turn). Also, I would recommend that a voice link is used – even if it is only a few of the players. It would help with keeping tack of whose move and telling people like me, that can’t count, that they have move too many squares. Just a thought. Mark

The voice link option has been discussed and may be used sometime down the road. The problem would be that everybody would have to have it so that no player is left out of the conversation. If everything has to be typed into the chat box to accomodate the one player, then nobody has gained anything.

I think the chat is a great idea, even if all players dont have it. I dont mind if others are chatting & I cant hear, as long as someone just types 'chatting'.
Yeah, the games were a bit of an anomoly... but it does happen! Crits usually are not that bad either, just extremely bad luck last night.
Sunday Morning game anyone?

I'm up for Sunday AM. I highly recommend Skype for voice communications - it's free, and easy to hold a conference call. Voice communications is especially handy for new players, who haven't yet got the hang of juggling a half dozen windows and have enough trouble keeping up without having to type out questions.

For those who are interested, I just figured out the current score in the campaign game. Last time I'd updated the score here (end of June), it was 14-3 for the Brits. We've played three campaign games since.
July 5 - One Albatros and one SE-5 went down in flames, Brits aborted their artillery spotting mission - Brits 2 pts Germans 10 pts
July 12 - Dogfight, one German shot down, rest ran for home - Brits 8 Germans 0
September 13 - German artillery spotting mission successful (3 of 3 targets), 2 German Albatri shot down, 1 SE-5 shot down - Brits 4 Germans 8
So the updated score is Brits 28 Germans 21, still close enough that a single mission could finally give the Germans a turn in the lead.
