This is the place for suggestions on how to modify the Dawn Patrol vassal module. If you have Ideas for new features you would like to see incorporated into a future version this is the place to post them.
Status as of 4/22/07
Version 1.1 has been released.
Features included in v1.1:
1. Invisible counters working for all players. -> Included in v1.1
This has been added to the new version (v1.1 is what im calling it). I have tested it online my self and it looks like its working. (also it did not require me to limit the number of players in the module.)
2. Aircraft ID numbers -> Included in v1.1
This turned out to be easy so I added it in while I was making the other changes.
3. Map Square numbering -> Included in v1.1
I was able to add this as well. I tried to make them a little faint, so they would not stand out too much. Let me know how you like them.
Feature requests for next version;
In process:
1. Extended Aircraft counter set. -> Kevan
Kevan still has more aircraft to add. so we will try and get them into the next version.
2. Teams with private team windows. -> Rex
Currently not possible from what I have found in the documentation. We found a work around however. If all players log in a second vassal and connect to the server, they can create alternate chat rooms for each team outside the main game where. Each team can then chat and roll dice in private. We have tested this in a live game and it works great for rolling hidden dammage and Jams.
3. New maps ->On Hold
This is going to have to be a team effort. We will be drawing maps from scratch and optimizing them for size and memory usage. We can start this after we get the first update out of the way.
I will get the ball rolling.
1. Vassal has a feature that allows some counters to be made invisible by the owning player. I have noticed that if more than 2 players are playing, only the first 2 to join the game have the ability to make counters invisible. This comes in very handy with some of the play aid counters and could be used to hide AA guns or planes that fly into the clouds.
I think this has to do with the way Vassal handles player sides in the game. Right now no sides are defined each player should be his own side. But I don't think this is working properly. I have been able to define separate players and I think this would fix the problem but I will need to test. The problem with this is that it will limit the number of players able to play to the number of player slots defined in the module. So the question is, What is the absolute maximum number of players that we would like to see in an on line game? Or should we leave it as is and sacrifice invisible counters? Or is there a way to fix it so that invisible counters work with unlimited players?
2. The current version does not support Teams. Ideally I would like to see teams that can be defined dynamically so that players on each team can share information but keep it hidden from the other side. This would facilitate hidden damage by allowing players to roll damage in a private team window so the others on their team could witness the rolls.
There is the potential for players to discuss strategy in private windows while moves are being made, however since this is widely known to be bad form and the DP community has been built on integrity, I don't see this as a huge problem.
