For anyone that has access to the History Channel- www.history.com/minisites/dogfights/Dogfights : The First Dogfighters Airs on Friday August 17 09:00 PM World War I saw the birth of a new type of combat: the dogfight. Aces from almost every nation take canvas and wire bi-planes into battle and pioneer new tactics. German ace Ernst Udet goes 1 v. 1 with Georges Guynemer. Werner Voss takes on an entire squadron of British aces...and American ace Arthur Raymond Brooks finds himself in the dogfight of his life. State-of-the-art computer graphics, first-hand accounts, rare archival footage and original shooting will help to make the viewer feel like they're in the battle, facing the enemy.

For anyone that hasn't seen "Dogfights", I heartily recommend it. I can't wait for this Friday's episode. Unfortunately it's the only WWI episode this year.

The WWI episode of "Dogfights" was on last night and was really good. I only noticed one minor technical error. At one point during the Voss vs. 56 Squadron tussle the narrator said one of the British planes "opened up with both Vickers".

Can't wait for the series to cycle back to the early episodes. Just caught up on the last two episodes (recounting the Battle of Leyte Gulf and the sinking of the Bismarck), both of which spent half the episode recounting a naval battle, and the other half on the involvement of torpedo and dive bombers. Not quite my definition of a "dogfight". Did enjoy the two prior episodes though, the ones on the Israeli air force and the one on bombers in dogfights.

Good show. The producers of Dogfights are also providing animation for my documentary titled "The Search for THE STAND: The Final Flight of Lt. Frank Luke, Jr." They do great work and we were excited to get the deal.
